Arata Kangatari is Watase's first shonen themed manga series!
Every thrity years, a new princess is chosen from the Hime family to serve the Hayagami. The time has come again for a new princess to be crowned, but over these past years records state not a single female has been born, except for one, the 15 year old Arata. The only problem is Arata, is actually male! Forced to disguise himself as a girl, Arata makes his way to the palace as the princess candidate until a formal one can be found.
He attends the festival only to bare witness the current princess, Kokuri-hime's murder! Now it seems the murderer, Kannagi, one of the 12 Shinshou (personal body guards of the princess) is placing the blame on Arata, and convinces everyone of the evil deed, and is now after his head,
Back in our world, another Arata suffering from betrayal of friendships finds himself in a strange land and is suddenly being convicted of murder ....
